Rope care and safety during use

  1. Protect the rope from direct contact with rough surfaces, sharp edges, chemicals and high temperatures.
  2. For ropes with braided loops or for ropes connected by braiding, the strength is only reduced by 10%. Knots reduce the rope strength by 25-55%.
  3. If possible, store ropes in clean and dry conditions, protected from direct sunlight.
  4. Avoid bending the rope sharply when it is under tension, as in this case only about half of the fibres would be stressed. The minimum bending diameter of the rope should be six times the diameter of the rope.
  5. Ropes are subject to considerable wear in exposed areas where they are subjected to prolonged friction and abrasion. Therefore, it is advisable to check these points and regularly change the position of the rope to use it more evenly. The most stressed areas are the areas that come into contact with anchor eyes, pulleys, etc.
  6. Never stand in the direction of rope tension. If the rope breaks, the energy released can cause serious injury.

Store ropes preferably in dry and dark rooms and protect them from radiant heat from heat sources. Avoid contamination with chemicals. Although most ropes are resistant to chemicals, prolonged contamination could cause significant damage to the rope. Use a sharp knife or fuse wire to divide the ropes. If you are dividing the rope with a knife, be sure to fix the two separated parts with adhesive tape or wire to prevent unravelling. Always seal the ends of synthetic ropes that have been split without using fuse wire, and do this at least with a lighter flame.
